However, she has drawn criticism for a recent social media post that she made while visiting Greenland, which many have called “tone-deaf.”
The 82-year-old received a lot of positive attention earlier this year when she posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in May, but her most recent Instagram post hasn’t generated the same kind of enthusiasm.
Stewart posted a picture of herself from a cruise that included seeing Greenland’s east coast on Tuesday, August 29. The image, which is one of several, features the TV personality and businesswoman sipping a cocktail and is captioned:
“The first Zodiac tour from Swan Hellenic Cruises comes to an end as we enter a breathtaking fjord on Greenland’s east coast. In fact, we managed to catch a tiny iceberg for our cocktails this evening.
Even while Stewart most likely meant her post to be inoffensive, it quickly incited anger from fans who thought it was inappropriate for her to use the “small iceberg” as the symbol for her drink.
Soon, many were criticizing Stewart for bringing up a tiny iceberg in the context of the “ice caps melting” in her comments section.
One Instagram user said, “Martha, the ice caps are melting. Don’t put them in your drink.”
“Generally, I love Martha and her excesses because she’s all about beautiful homes, gardens, and food, but it’s a bit tone deaf for wealthy white people to drink their iceberg cocktails while the planet is burning,” someone else said.
Thus, millionaires take vacations to the melting icebergs, scoop them up, and use them to keep their cocktails icy as the climate warms as a result of the riches of a few thousand people. That sentence has the feel of one from a dystopian book. Can’t make this shit up, haha,” remarked a third.
“Even with global warming and ice caps disappearing, we still need glacier ice for cocktails? Discuss tone def. Been a lover for years, but lately, when I’m having trouble buying groceries, I’ve seen enough caviar that I’m out,” a fourth person commented.
Stewart created history back in May when she boldly posed for Sports Illustrated’s cover, donning provocative bikinis. The 81-year-old also disclosed the strict health regimen she had followed prior.
In an interview with Today, Stewart said, “I didn’t starve myself, but I didn’t eat any bread or pasta for a couple of months.”
“It was amazing that I went to Pilates every other day, and I’m still going because it’s that good. In any case, I lead a clean life that includes a nutritious diet, regular exercise, decent skincare, and other habits.
Stewart discussed the reaction of the audience to the “authentic” cover in her keynote address at the Las Vegas event.
According to Stewart, “the response was really encouraging because it gave women of all ages the confidence to believe that they could succeed too.”
