I was laying by the pool on a sunny day, soaking in the warmth, letting the stress of the week melt away while my husband was away at work. The sun was high, the sky was clear, and it felt like a perfect moment of solitude. I had slipped out of my swimsuit top to avoid any tan lines, enjoying the freedom of the sunshine on my bare skin.

In my relaxed state, I had completely forgotten that we had hired a pool guy—a new one, who had never been to our house before. Lost in the comfort of the moment, I didn’t hear the doorbell ring or the sound of him entering the backyard.

Suddenly, I heard the faint sound of footsteps on the pool deck. My eyes snapped open, heart racing, as I turned to see him standing there, looking just as surprised as I felt. He quickly averted his eyes, mumbling apologies and turning his back to give me some privacy.

For a moment, I wasn’t sure what to do. A part of me was mortified, but another part, the part that enjoyed the occasional thrill, found the situation amusing. I reached for my towel, slowly wrapping it around myself as I got up from the lounge chair.

“It’s okay,” I said, trying to sound more composed than I felt. “I completely forgot you were coming today.”

He nodded, still not looking directly at me, clearly trying to keep things professional despite the awkwardness. I could see the tension in his posture, the way he was trying to maintain his composure.

“You can go ahead and do your work,” I added, making my way towards the house. “I’ll just be inside.”

As I walked past him, I couldn’t help but notice the way his eyes flickered towards me, just for a moment. There was something oddly thrilling about the entire encounter—being caught off guard like that, the tension in the air, the way he was trying so hard to be respectful even though the situation was anything but ordinary.

Once inside, I peeked out the window, watching as he started to clean the pool, his movements a little more hurried than they probably would have been under normal circumstances. I couldn’t help but smile to myself, a mix of amusement and curiosity lingering in my mind.

The day continued, but the memory of that unexpected moment stayed with me. It was a reminder of how unpredictable life can be, and how sometimes, it’s the unexpected encounters that add a bit of excitement to the everyday routine.
