I wanted someone my age, someone who could share in the wild journey of life. My mom, however, had different ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy struggle?\u201d she would ask. \u201cDo you really want to waste your time with a man who\u2019s still figuring it out? You need someone who\u2019s already built something, someone who\u2019s been through life and come out the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike who?\u201d I asked, half-expecting her to suggest someone closer to her age than mine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen in their 50s,\u201d she said without hesitation. \u201cThey\u2019ve done the hard work. They\u2019re more mature, they understand life better, and they usually have financial stability. They\u2019ve got more to offer than just excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t help but laugh. \u201cSo, you\u2019re saying I should date someone who\u2019s lived through two decades of adulthood already?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExactly,\u201d she said with a smile. \u201cSomeone who knows how to handle responsibilities, and most importantly, has the means to make your life easier. No chasing dreams\u2014just enjoying life together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her advice always stayed in the back of my mind.
