I couldn\u2019t talk,\u201d Jones recalled in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/achievement.org\/achiever\/james-earl-jones\/#interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1996 interview<\/a>. \u201cSo my first year of school was my first mute year, and then those mute years continued until I got to high school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He worked hard to overcome the condition and was encouraged by one of his teachers to read poetry out loud in order to improve his speech.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=%22http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg%22%20width=%22673%22%20height=%221000%22%3E%3C\/svg%3E\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-67448\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/boreddaddy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/shutterstock_187226399.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"h-over-time-his-deep-resonant-voice-became-his-signature-and-helped-him-land-some-of-cinema-s-most-iconic-and-unforgettable-roles\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Over time, his deep resonant voice became his signature and helped him land some of cinema\u2019s most iconic and unforgettable roles.<\/h2>\n<p>Jones\u2019 acting career, which spanned decades, started at Broadway in 1957, when he had his debut. He quickly conquered the stage and made a name for himself, thus won a Tony Award for his role in\u00a0<em>The Great White Hope<\/em>\u00a0in 1969. He continued to voice Vader for decades, in the two sequels\u00a0<em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>, the prequel\u00a0<em>Revenge of the Sith<\/em>\u00a0and the spin-off\u00a0<em>Rogue One<\/em>.
