The diagnosis means that her life expectancy has been cut drastically since FTD does not have any cure.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-b43e6fb03a9c7f696c14b4da8752976d\" class=\"newsner-b43e6fb03a9c7f696c14b4da8752976d newsner-incide_content_once\"><\/div>\n<p>Dr. Allison Reiss, an associate professor of medicine at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine and an Alzheimer\u2019s Foundation of America\u2019s Medical, Scientific and Memory Screening Advisory Board Member, commented to the media about the talk show host\u2019s prognosis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-ea5b2437bb32e2db8bb6c4cc0412e2c5\" class=\"newsner-ea5b2437bb32e2db8bb6c4cc0412e2c5 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe do not know what causes it. We know that it happens in people younger than, say, Alzheimer\u2019s disease,\u201d Reiss said. She added, \u201cThere is some literature that people with thyroid issues may be more likely to have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/dementia\/\">frontal temporal dementia<\/a>, and we definitely know Wendy Williams has a history of thyroid problems that I think you can see in her eyes. She has some, what looks like thyroid eye disease to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-145744 ls-is-cached lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/02\/23120612\/shutterstock_98393903-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2024\/02\/23120612\/shutterstock_98393903-1.jpg\" data-eio-rwidth=\"750\" data-eio-rheight=\"1000\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Reiss made sure to mention that she has never met\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/wendy-williams\/\">Wendy Williams<\/a> and has not treated her but is basing his comments of off his observation of the talk show host on TV throughout the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched her show when I saw her at different stages,\u201d Reiss\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/inside-wendy-williams-frontotemporal-dementia-diagnosis-her-life-expectancy-and-signs-she-was\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">went on<\/a>. \u201cYou can really see what has happened. But we don\u2019t have this information and I know that \u2014 because of Bruce Willis \u2014 we are really moving forward more. We need to get some research dollars to look into this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As many already know, Bruce Willis was diagnosed with the same disease last year. Wendy Williams\u2019 care team made the decision to come forward with her diagnosis now even though it was revealed that she had been diagnosed last year. In the trailed for the documentary, she appears both coherent and then frazzled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cognitive function stays longer, but eventually you lose that and the result for all of these is the same, which is losing pretty much everything,\u201d Reiss explained about the disease. \u201cAnd then it is a fatal disorder, somewhere around seven to nine years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams has had her fair share of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/media\/videos\/wendy-williams-battle-with-graves-disease-how-its-affected-her-life-throughout-the\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">health battles<\/a>\u00a0in the last few years. She has battled Graves\u2019 disease and lymphedema among others. In June 2023, Williams also checked herself into a treatment facility to deal with her alcohol addiction issues. And we have what\u2019s called cognitive reserve. So, the more that you have built-up the longer it takes for a disease like this to give you symptoms. So, if you\u2019ve depleted some of your nerve cells already, you might show symptoms a little sooner than you would have otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lifetime documentary trailer also showed some other alarming signs which people noticed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see that she\u2019s getting more frail. She\u2019s not making as much sense, being as coherent, and you can see that the priorities of her life change as she really does recognize that the fame and the fortune \u2014 when you are in this kind of situation \u2014 it doesn\u2019t really have the meaning that it has to be with people who love you and care about you,\u201d Reiss shared his thoughts.
