It\u2019s always the same\u2014he\u2019ll ask me about a man from my past, pretending it\u2019s just curiosity, but I can see the doubt in his eyes. He\u2019s not asking because he wants to know me better; he\u2019s asking because he\u2019s comparing himself, trying to measure up to relationships that ended long ago.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to understand why he\u2019s so fixated on men who don\u2019t matter anymore. I\u2019ve told him countless times that those relationships are over for a reason, that I\u2019m with him because I love him. But no matter how much reassurance I give, it\u2019s like he\u2019s stuck in this cycle of doubt.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll bring up old boyfriends at the most random times\u2014when we\u2019re watching TV, when we\u2019re out with friends, even during intimate moments. It\u2019s as if he can\u2019t let go of the idea that maybe, just maybe, I loved someone else more than I love him. But that\u2019s not true. If it were, I wouldn\u2019t be here, would I?<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know how to fix this. His jealousy is wearing me down, making me feel like I\u2019m constantly defending myself against something that doesn\u2019t exist.
