My husband\u2019s retroactive jealousy has turned into a daily struggle, something neither of us seems to know how to handle. He\u2019ll bring up men I haven\u2019t thought about in years, asking questions that don\u2019t just feel intrusive\u2014they feel like accusations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you love him more than me?\u201d he\u2019ll ask, his eyes filled with doubt. Or, \u201cWas he better at this or that?\u201d I can see the insecurity in him, the way his mind has twisted our pasts into some sort of bizarre competition. The worst part is, I know there\u2019s nothing I can say to ease his fears. No amount of reassurance or explanation seems to reach him.<\/p>\n<p>At first, I thought it would pass. I believed that in time, he\u2019d realize that those relationships are just fragments of my life that no longer matter. But as the months go by, I can feel the weight of his jealousy growing heavier. It\u2019s as if we\u2019re never alone in our marriage\u2014there are always ghosts in the room, the ghosts of men I once knew, and they\u2019re standing between us.<\/p>\n<p>I wish I could make him see that they don\u2019t matter. I chose him. I love him. But his need to compare himself to people who aren\u2019t even here is driving a wedge between us. I can feel it, the distance growing, and I\u2019m terrified of what might happen if it keeps widening. I don\u2019t want to lose him, but how do you fight against something that\u2019s only in someone else\u2019s mind?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m left wondering if our love is strong enough to survive this. I want to believe it is, but each time he brings up the past, it chips away at the future I thought we were building.
