Fans of Jackson may be unaware that she has battled cancer twice.<\/p><div class=\"311fe198f191a864c1efcdfa9efedfdf\" data-index=\"3\" style=\"float: none; margin:0px 0 0px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1782571\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n<p>The 73-year-old actress, nominated for multiple primetime Emmys for her performance in Charlie\u2019s Angels, battled breast cancer twice. In an interview in the 1990s, she stated she was \u201cforced to face\u201d her \u201cpersonal mortality\u201d during her initial battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was working on the successful TV show Scarecrow and Mrs. King at the time of her initial diagnosis in January 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was given the day off work because another member of the cast had the flu, but instead of relaxing for the entire day, she went for a mammogram after having a premonition that morning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-21\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26536\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/recipmo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1-min-70.jpg?w=1250&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"812\" height=\"480\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"165672171\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt was out of the blue, yet obvious,\u201d she recounted her foreboding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got up in bed and said, \u2018You have to have a mammogram.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-22\"><\/div>\n<p>Following her instincts, she underwent her first mammogram, an X-ray of the breast that discovered a tiny lump in her left breast.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, she underwent a biopsy to determine whether the cells were malignant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a lump,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere wasn\u2019t even anything I could feel. It was tiny.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26537\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/recipmo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/2-min-66.jpg?w=1250&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"802\" height=\"463\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"2142280469\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Despite its size, the biopsy revealed that the tumor was cancerous. She had a lumpectomy four days later to remove it, followed by radiation therapy while she returned to work.<\/p>\n<p>She recovered from her initial attack illness a year later and went on to act in an American sitcom called Baby Boom in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, two years after her first cancer struggle, the actress detected another clump of cancer cells in her left breast during a routine mammogram.<\/p>\n<p>She recovered from cancer, but the two diagnoses emotionally impacted Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe range of emotions you go through is remarkable,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, I made a conscious decision to be optimistic. When I had a negative notion, I ignored it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26538\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/recipmo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/3-min-43.jpg?w=1250&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"715\" height=\"811\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"1707078811\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>A recurrence is the return of cancer after it has been treated, and it may only be detected through follow-up scans.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cancer Research UK, your breast or scar may appear or feel different.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment for a recurrence will depend on what you had previously, but it may involve the removal of the entire breast, known as a mastectomy, according to the charity.<\/p>\n<p>Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone treatment, and targeted cancer medications may also be used.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson underwent a partial mastectomy and reconstructive plastic surgery in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing I heard was good news,\u201d Jackson recalled when she awakened from surgery.
