He now works as a child model having done shoots in New York and Italy.<\/p>\n<p>But his appearance has given him nothing but issues at school and he has been rejected from a number of schools because of the length of his hair.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1467386285\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>James has an older brother whose mom Bonnie Miller said when he was at school she was told his hair was too short.<\/p>\n<p>Bonnie said Farouk\u2019s father is from Ghana and for cultural reasons, the parents didn\u2019t cut his hair until he was 3 years old.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/images.squarespace-cdn.com\/content\/v1\/58f1049ebf629a9dbf61e295\/1525049138213-N69L29TTL0NZMWOGPLI9\/2.jpeg\" alt=\"THE FUTURE OF FASHION: FAROUK JAMES \u2014 @JustChambers\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.squarespace-cdn.com\/content\/v1\/58f1049ebf629a9dbf61e295\/1525049138213-N69L29TTL0NZMWOGPLI9\/2.jpeg\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CZNcHeOqpXT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Instagram<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div id=\"newsner-1452240134\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAt that point he was attached \u2014 and so was I, to be honest \u2014 with his beautiful hair,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family live in the U.K. where most schools have a policy that despite girls being allowed to have long hair, boys are not.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle adsbygoogle-noablate\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9227461995181599\" data-adsbygoogle-status=\"done\" data-ad-status=\"filled\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"aswift_3_host\" tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Advertisement\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\"><\/div>\n<p><\/ins><\/div>\n<p>Bonnie said forcing children to cut their hair is against their human rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not give up trying to persuade governments to put legislation in place to protect children from these outdated, punishing rules,\u201d his mom Bonnie wrote on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B736vGLJU7n\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=106769b7-74c9-421b-a0f6-e83e508b953e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Instagram.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarouk hasn\u2019t done anything wrong and YOU REJECT HIM! He will say good bye to his friends as they all get accepted into the schools he so desperately wants to attend.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-1\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CHyiXdvhJl4\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Ffamily%2Foutdated-punishing-rules-mom-fights-for-son-8-to-keep-his-long-hair-despite-schools-rejecting-him%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR0ks9XWQd3Uk_RnJRclEmUoUoLiSQWNa3EjYaYHZkLggfJCjFaontwTzwQ#%7B%22ci%22%3A1%2C%22os%22%3A2735.60000000149%7D\" height=\"1274\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This situation even prompted Bonnie to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/houses-of-parliament-change-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">start a Change.org petition to ban hair discrimination in the U.K.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re getting a real team together and calling it the Mane Generation,\u201d Bonnie said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to fight this until these rules get changed. And it\u2019s globally, not just domestically in the U.K.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/faroukjames\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Instagram account<\/a>\u00a0featuring Farouk and his life as a fun-loving boy and child model is managed by his mom and has more than a quarter of a million followers.<\/p>\n<p>But despite all the love and support he gets online they still receive negative comments. After an appearance on popular U.K. TV morning show \u2018This Morning\u2019 to discuss the family\u2019s struggle to find a school which will accept Farouk and his hair, Bonnie said she received many negative comments.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-2\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/COs7JFGBCId\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Ffamily%2Foutdated-punishing-rules-mom-fights-for-son-8-to-keep-his-long-hair-despite-schools-rejecting-him%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR0ks9XWQd3Uk_RnJRclEmUoUoLiSQWNa3EjYaYHZkLggfJCjFaontwTzwQ#%7B%22ci%22%3A2%2C%22os%22%3A2740.400000002235%7D\" height=\"1222\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-2\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div id=\"newsner-905800512\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis week is mental health week so I\u2019m surprised to be receiving lots of negative comments about Farouk\u2019s hair,\u201d Bonnie wrote in May last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarouk\u2019s hair is a God given part of him and he will not be cutting it to appease anyone, just as he does not keep it long at my request either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bonnie argues that the appearance rules for girls and boys at schools are archaic and in some cases racist with many schools banning dreadlocks and braids.<\/p>\n<p>The mom says she will never stop fighting for acceptance of Farouk and his hair and all the other children who are discriminated against for wanting to express their cultural heritage and who they are.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Child Model Being Forced to Chop His Hair to Continue His Education | This Morning\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dP4UK4iz_tE?feature=oembed\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Farouk\u2019s hair is part of who he is and rejecting a child on the basis of his or her hair by those who are trusted to teach our children is unacceptable in 2022.
