It has been on our front porch since we bought it. My husband and I are stumped and Google has been no help so far. It\u2019s has CS88 stamped on it. House was built in 1890s\u2026UPDATE: It weighs 16lbs. Just a thought.<br \/>\nIt can also be a weight for reins from horses or a weight used with a dray wagon<br \/>\nI think it\u2019s supposed to go in a fireplace<br \/>\nScrape mud off your riding boots but I dont think it was ever completed<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a weight.<br \/>\nCombination boot scraper and horse hitching post!!<br \/>\nI think it\u2019s a insert for a fireplace chimney lol idk<br \/>\nThat\u2019s a heavy duty component. Might work as a moveable chock for a cable bridge, or anchor chain guide. Stamp gives a clue. Carnegie Steel? Though it\u2019s cast iron . . . fascinating. I\u2019ll be looking around for the solution<br \/>\nBoot scraper.<br \/>\nLooks like a type of form to shape a tube, more industrial than domestic<br \/>\nI\u2019d say it\u2019s more of a Blacksmith tool.<br \/>\nNot enough ridges for a boot scrapper.<br \/>\nIt does look like it holds up or supports a pipe of some sort. Maybe a water pipe?<br \/>\nSomething a smithy used to bend iron<br \/>\nWeren\u2019t boot scrapers more of a blade? And what\u2019s the purpose of the empty space in the middle?<br \/>\nkind of high to scrape your boots-i\u2019d have trouble with that<br \/>\nMy guess would be a horse tie down<br \/>\nTo make paper fire logs in ?<br \/>\nWonder if CS stands for Confederate States ???<br \/>\nAgreeing with the industrial idea, for shaping something.<br \/>\nI\u2019d say to a scrape dirt &amp; mud off boots &amp; shoes . Probably sat out on porch or varies places to not track in the house.<br \/>\nWhat do you think it is?
