I followed him, thinking this might be my moment to talk about my career. But as we sat down, his demeanor changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, I\u2019ve been watching you, and I think you\u2019re ready for that promotion,\u201d he said, his eyes locking onto mine. \u201cBut there\u2019s something I want from you in return. Just one night together, and I can make sure you get everything you\u2019ve been working for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I froze, feeling a wave of shock and disbelief. I\u2019d always respected him as a boss, but this was crossing a line I never thought he would. I took a deep breath and looked him straight in the eye.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, Mr. Thompson,\u201d I said, keeping my voice calm. \u201cI\u2019m not interested. I\u2019ve worked hard for my career, but I\u2019m not willing to compromise my values or my marriage for a promotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tension in the air was palpable, but I stood up and walked away, my heart pounding. I knew I\u2019d done the right thing, even if it meant losing out on the promotion.
