Here\u2019s all you need to know about Lorenzo and the many struggles he\u2019s overcome.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>One was getting over the fact that his son had an affair with his ex-wife.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92939\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/12\/05202633\/lorenzolamas3-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lorenzo Lamas\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Even as a young kid, Lorenzo Lamas\u2019s stars had aligned where acting was concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Born Lorenzo Fernando Lamas on January 20, 1958, in Santa Monica, California, he was raised by his mother Arlene Dahl, an American actress of Norwegian descent, and his father Fernando Lamas, an Argentinian who worked as an actor and director.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-lorenzo-lamas-early-life\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lorenzo Lamas \u2013 early life<\/h2>\n<p>Lorenzo grew up in the fashionable area of Pacific Palisades, California. At age two, his parents divorced, and eight years later, he moved to New York with his father.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo has often drawn upon the fact that his family comes from different parts of the world. He once starred as Dracula in a Halloween production of the famous Bram Stoker novel and had no problem at all adopting a different accent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grew up with a man who had a voice like Dracula and every other bigger-than-life character you could ever think of in my father,\u201d he told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/10\/21\/nyregion\/nyregionspecial2\/21artsnj.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a>\u00a0in 2007. \u201cI take a little bit from him to do the accent. I\u2019ve also done four movies in Bulgaria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Lorenzo was transitioning from a kid into a young man, his father had a pretty wild lifestyle. According to Lorenzo, his father had \u201cbeen with every woman.\u201d Yet as a child, he adored him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI idolized my father, especially as a young boy. He was bigger than life. He commanded the room. He\u2019d done everything, seen everything,\u201d he told Fox. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty heady stuff to grow up with.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92941\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/12\/05202631\/lorenzolamas1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lorenzo Lamas\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jack Mitchell\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe was Latin, he was very judgmental, he thought a woman\u2019s place was in the kitchen. He just happened to marry a woman who was a top ten box office star of the \u201950s, and she retired to serve him!\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-first-work-in-acting\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">First work in acting<\/h2>\n<p>Lorenzo\u2019s father married actress Esther Williams in 1969, a year after their move to \u201cThe Big Apple,\u201d and life for Lorenzo got tough at times. For example, when Esther\u2019s children visited, Lorenzo wasn\u2019t even allowed to sleep in the house!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was many things, but he was also fair, so if he wasn\u2019t going to allow another man\u2019s children in his house, then he couldn\u2019t allow me in the house,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo my roommate was a Rolls Royce. I had a key that let me in the backdoor where there was a guest bathroom. But I came from military school, so living in a garage in Beverly Hills was plush to me. I had shared a urinal with 30 guys for the last four years. Looking back, I know that\u2019s not normal. I know that I would never do that to my kids. I run my three teenage daughters around like a chauffeur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo Lamas attended private school and graduated from the Admiral Farragut Academy in 1975. Instead of staying on the East Coast, he decided to leave for his home state of California.<\/p>\n<p>Though his father could be a strict man, he always encouraged his son to follow his dreams and backed him wholeheartedly in pursuing his dreams of becoming an actor. Lorenzo enrolled at Tony Barr\u2019s Film Actors Workshop. In 1977, he got his first minor role in television, starring in two episodes of the show\u00a0<em>Switch<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92940\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/12\/05202632\/lorenzolamas2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lorenzo Lamas\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Aaron Rapoport\/Corbis\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While cultivating his acting talent, Lorenzo also found that he had a tremendous interest in martial arts. He got in shape \u2013 and later on, earned black belts in both taekwondo and karate.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-lorenzo-lamas-in-grease\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lorenzo Lamas in \u2018Grease\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Now, getting roles in bigger productions often takes time for most actors. Some have to try out at hundreds of auditions to get one part; others have to wait years, maybe even decades, to land their first role in a more significant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/celebrity\/john-travolta-opens-up-about-mourning-his-late-wife-kelly-preston-only-your-own-journey-can-heal-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hollywood<\/a>\u00a0production.<\/p>\n<p>For Lorenzo Lamas, however, this wasn\u2019t the case. In 1978, he was cast as the good-looking stud \u201cTom Chisum\u201d in the legendary film\u00a0<em>Grease<\/em>, featuring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. He played the boyfriend of Olivia Newton-John\u2019s character, \u201cSandy\u201d. That said, he initially wasn\u2019t chosen for the part.<\/p>\n<p>Steven Ford \u2013 son of former President Gerald Ford \u2013 was considered for the role, but was reportedly too nervous to play \u201cTom\u201d. The part had no dialogue, but that didn\u2019t bother Lorenzo when he got the gig.<\/p>\n<p>People probably knew that the film had potential at the time, but even so, it\u2019s safe to say that Lamas secured himself an extraordinary place in film history with his relatively small credit in\u00a0<em>Grease<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m amazed by the longevity. It keeps finding new generations of people,\u201d he told Studio 10.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo had dark hair at the time, but the producers thought he looked too much like a \u201cT-Bird\u201d to star as Sandy\u2019s boyfriend. As a result, they dyed his hair lighter \u2013 something that he didn\u2019t mind at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have dyed it green, fuchsia, anything,\u201d he told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/archive\/cover-story-grease-is-the-word-vol-49-no-14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92943\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/12\/05202629\/grease1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Youtube\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gJLCKHxGmXE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Josodoyo<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the time, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John were already stars. For Lorenzo Lamas, it was a dream come true just to meet them. What made the whole thing even better, was that Olivia Newton-Jon had been Lorenzo\u2019s childhood crush.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-became-a-star-on-falcon-crest\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Became a star on \u2018Falcon Crest\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI was 19. It was only the third thing I\u2019ve ever done. And I was at the Paramount lot, meeting my childhood crush, Olivia Newton-John, and Mr. Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta. So I was kind of in a complete zombie state, to begin with,\u201d Lorenzo recalled.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that he had all her albums, and in high school, he and his friends even had routines dancing to her albums. When they finally met, Lorenzo was almost knocked off his heels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t take my eyes off her,\u201d he told Studio 10.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grease<\/em>\u00a0was, of course, a big deal for Lorenzo and a fantastic opportunity when looking back. Naturally, though, it wasn\u2019t quite a breakthrough since he only appeared in a few scenes.<\/p>\n<p>In 1981, he got the role of Lance Cumson on\u00a0<em>Falcon Crest.<\/em>\u00a0The nighttime soap became a huge success, with Lamas starring alongside Oscar-winning actress Jane Wyman for 228 episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Wyman portrayed Lamas\u2019 grandmother on the show \u2013 at that time, she was a massive Hollywood star. Wyman took him to one side and gave him both barrels.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-it-was-the-pinnacle-of-my-career\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cIt was the pinnacle of my career\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThis is what we\u2019re going to do. We\u2019re going to take a 15-minute break. You\u2019re going to memorize your lines. And you\u2019re never going to come to work high again,\u201d Lorenzo quoted Wyman as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Lamas managed to turn his life around and stayed on the show for nine years. He was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1983 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the success of\u00a0<em>Falcon Crest<\/em>, Lorenzo didn\u2019t go without a job on television for a long time afterward. In 1992, he was cast as Reno Raines in the drama show\u00a0<em>Renegade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Renegade\u00a0<\/em>became another huge success, especially for Lamas himself. Even though all actors or actresses seek to be in the most prominent shows or films, for Lorenzo, it was all about playing a character he felt was right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the pinnacle of my career up until this point,\u201d Lamas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JUdjDU-gZzY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in 2010. \u201cI had the most creative input, and it was a part that I liked. I liked riding bikes since before that show, so it was a good fit. If you\u2019re an actor and you\u2019re fortunate enough to get a role where you feel it\u2019s a good fit and the audience senses that, it\u2019s like winning the lottery. \u201c<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-92937\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2021\/12\/05202636\/lorenzolamas5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Lorenzo Lamas\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock\/s_bukley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an amazing thing to happen because it rarely does. And the character had almost a sense of nobility about it, it was a character that was well-developed. So I was very fortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-became-a-pilot-for-medical-related-air-transport\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Became a pilot for medical-related air transport<\/h2>\n<p>If he wasn\u2019t already a stud before\u00a0<em>Renegade<\/em>, Lamas certainly laid claim to that title once it aired. However, the 1990 show proved to be his last big hit. Lamas has continued to work as an actor since, just not with the same level of widespread success. Just a decade ago, he started his own motorcycle company.<\/p>\n<p>Lamas also loves flying and is a helicopter flight instructor and an airplane pilot. In addition, he has worked with a charitable organization called\u00a0<em>Angel Flight<\/em>, which provides free, medical-related air transport for those who can\u2019t afford it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPilots like myself donate our planes and time to get people around the country for medical treatment,\u201d he told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.soapoperadigest.com\/content\/fly-boy-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soap Opera Digest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would fly people from their hometowns to the cities where their hospitals were located. Acting is relatively important concerning social issues, but flying a person who would normally have to sit in a car for hours means so much more to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-lorenzo-lamas-s-son-allegedly-slept-with-his-ex-wife\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lorenzo Lamas\u2019s son allegedly slept with his ex-wife<\/h2>\n<p>Though Lorenzo lived a wild life full of parties in the 1980s and 1990s, he also managed to start a family. He\u2019s been married a total of five times, to Victoria Hilbert, Michele Cathy Smith, Kathleen Kinmont, Shauna Sand, and Shawna Craig.<\/p>\n<p>Shauna Sand \u2013 who was a former Playmate \u2013 and Lorenzo Lamas tied the knot in 1996 and welcomed three daughters. The couple divorced six years later, but not long after, an event \u201cdestroyed him emotionally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/lorenzo-lamas-dishes-on-his-5-marriages-and-why-he-left-showbiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox<\/a>, Lamas explained that his ex-wife Shauna Sand slept with his son, AJ Lamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty horrible. It\u2019s not just because he had sex with my ex-wife. A relationship takes two people to make or break it. I wasn\u2019t there for him as much as I\u2019ve been for my teenage daughters because I was on set 16 hours a day when he was growing up,\u201d Lamas explained. \u201cHis mother moving him out of state made it even more difficult to maintain a healthy father-son relationship. We\u2019ve never been able to recover. I love my son. He\u2019s a great soul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a sweet person but events that have happened to him in his life, some of his own making, as a parent you really can\u2019t take full responsibility for the destruction that can happen to a child. Shawna was 30 years his junior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt [complicated the family dynamic] initially,\u201d Lorenzo Lamas told Entertainment Online in 2015. \u201cOf course, it would. My friends said, \u2018What could you possibly have in common with a person that\u2019s 30 years younger than you?\u2019 I told them, \u2018Everything.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the family dynamic was complicated regarding age, it was nothing compared to what went on six years ago when Lorenzo\u2019s then-wife Shawna acted as Shayne\u2019s surrogate. To make things clear, his wife carried his granddaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Lamas delivered the news that he and model entrepreneur Kenna Scott are engaged. Her ability to forgive left me speechless at times.
