It started as a regular Friday afternoon at the office. I was finishing up some reports when my boss, Mr. Davis, casually strolled over to my desk. He seemed friendly as usual, engaging in small talk about upcoming projects and how well I’d been performing. I had worked hard over the past few months, so when he invited me to his house for a casual poolside hangout, it didn’t seem unusual. After all, he had invited other colleagues before.
I hesitated for a moment, knowing it could seem inappropriate, but he reassured me it was just a friendly get-together. I didn’t want to be rude, so I agreed, thinking nothing more of it.
That evening, I arrived at his house, which was exactly as extravagant as I had imagined, with a luxurious pool and a scenic view. We made light conversation, and everything seemed normal at first. But as the evening progressed, I noticed his tone change—he became more personal, and suddenly, out of nowhere, he made his proposition.
“If you agree to spend the night with me,” he said casually, “I’ll make sure you get that promotion you deserve.”
For a moment, I was frozen. I couldn’t believe what I had just heard. My heart raced, and my mind scrambled to process the words. Did he really just ask that? He knew I was married. He knew I had worked hard to earn my place in the company. Yet here he was, reducing my career advancement to a twisted bargain.
I felt sick, but I tried to remain composed. “I’m married,” I said firmly, hoping that would shut down the conversation. But he just shrugged. “So? That’s your choice. This is mine.”
I stood up, quickly making an excuse to leave. As I drove home, I felt a mix of disgust and disbelief. The trust I had in my workplace had been shattered, and I knew I’d never see my boss the same way again. The whole experience left me questioning not just my career, but the ethical limits some people were willing to cross for power.
