The Weight and the Gift

A single mom carries the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she also carries endless love, unshakable strength, and a heart that refuses to give up. I didn’t understand how true that was until I became one.

When my marriage ended, it wasn’t just me navigating the loss—it was me and my kids. Overnight, I went from sharing the load with a partner to carrying everything on my own. Bills, homework, bedtime routines, scraped knees, and broken hearts—it all landed squarely on my shoulders. At first, the weight was unbearable. I’d stay up late after the kids were asleep, staring at the ceiling, wondering how I was going to keep it all together.

There were days I wanted to quit, moments when the pressure seemed too much. But then, I’d look at my kids. I’d see the way their eyes lit up when I helped them solve a problem or the way they came to me for comfort after a bad day. That’s when it hit me: they don’t see the cracks in me. They see my love, my presence, and my determination to give them a good life.

Being a single mom has taught me that strength isn’t about having all the answers or never feeling weak—it’s about showing up every day, even when you feel like you can’t. It’s about learning to lean into the chaos and trusting that you’re enough, even when you doubt yourself.

I’ve discovered that while the weight can be heavy, it’s also a gift. My kids have shown me how strong I truly am. They’ve taught me to find joy in the small things and to never, ever give up. Because at the end of the day, love makes even the heaviest burdens worth carrying.
