The Day I Chose Myself

Today, I gave myself something I hadn’t in far too long: permission. Permission to unplug, to set aside the endless demands of life, and to focus on myself. It’s so easy to get caught up in the relentless pace of everyday responsibilities, convincing yourself there’s no time to pause. But lately, I’d felt the weight of it all pulling me down, and I knew something had to give.

So, I made a choice. I cleared my schedule and dedicated the entire day to self-care. Walking into the spa felt like stepping into another world—one where time slows down, where the air is filled with the calming scent of eucalyptus, and where every detail seems designed to soothe the soul.

I started with a soothing massage, and as the therapist worked on my tense shoulders and tired muscles, I could feel the stress melting away. Each knot that was released felt like a little piece of myself coming back to life. Afterward, I indulged in a refreshing facial. Cool serums, gentle exfoliation, and the light touch of skilled hands left my skin glowing and my spirit lifted. It was a small but powerful reminder of what it feels like to be cared for.

The final stop was the sauna, a warm, quiet haven where I let myself simply exist. I sat there with my eyes closed, feeling the heat seep into my body and silence the noise in my head. In that moment, I let go of the endless mental checklist, the guilt of putting myself first, and the idea that self-care was something optional.

Walking out of the spa, I felt lighter, both physically and emotionally. My mind was clearer, my body rejuvenated, and my heart a little fuller. It hit me then—taking care of yourself isn’t indulgence; it’s survival. It’s what allows us to show up for the people and things we care about.

Today, I chose myself. And in doing so, I was reminded of a truth I too often forget: I deserve the same care and kindness I so willingly give to others. This wasn’t just a day at the spa; it was a day to recharge, reconnect, and remember that I am worthy of my own time.
