I would rather walk alone with my dignity than stay with someone who made me forget my worth. And for too long, I did forget. I forgot what it felt like to be valued, to be cherished, to be seen. I spent years in a relationship that made me question my own reflection, slowly eroding the confidence and self-respect I once had.
At first, I made excuses. I told myself that all relationships go through hard times, that love requires patience, that maybe if I changed, things would get better. But love should never ask you to lose yourself. It should never make you feel like you are not enough.
The moment I chose to leave, I wasn’t just walking away from a person—I was walking away from a version of myself that had accepted less than she deserved. I was choosing to reclaim my dignity, my voice, my sense of self.
Yes, walking alone is scary. It’s uncertain, it’s lonely at times, and it’s filled with moments of doubt. But I would rather face the unknown with my head held high than stay in a place that made me feel small.
Now, I stand on my own, not because I have to, but because I choose to. And in choosing myself, I am finally free.
