Jesus 5 favorite prayers

While the New Testament documents Jesus praying on many occasions and teaches about prayer, it does not explicitly list Jesus’ “five favorite prayers.” However, we can look at several prayers and teachings on prayer that are directly associated with Jesus to understand His approach to prayer. Here are five significant moments of prayer or teachings on prayer from the life of Jesus:

  1. The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4): This is perhaps the most famous prayer associated with Jesus. It was given to His disciples in response to their request, “Lord, teach us to pray.” This prayer serves as a model for how Christians should pray, focusing on the worship of God, asking for daily needs, seeking forgiveness, and requesting guidance and deliverance from evil.
  2. The High Priestly Prayer (John 17): This prayer is found in the Gospel of John, where Jesus prays for Himself, His immediate disciples, and for all believers. It emphasizes Jesus’ desires for His followers’ unity, protection fro

    • “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34), showing Jesus’ forgiveness and compassion.
    • “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34), quoting Psalm 22, a deeply anguished cry that reflects His suffering and fulfillment of prophecy.
    • “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46), expressing His trust in God even in death.

  8. Teachings on Persistent Prayer: Jesus taught the importance of persistence in prayer through parables such as the Parable of the Persistent Widow (Luke 18:1-8), encouraging His followers to always pray and not give up.

These instances reflect the depth and breadth of Jesus’ prayer life and teachings on prayer, emphasizing themes of submission to God’s will, persistent faith, forgiveness, unity among believers, and the importance of seeking God’s kingdom.
