This is the season when many of us journey back to our familial homes to celebrate the holidays with our loved ones, and we often catch a glimpse of family moments on various social media platforms. This time also reminds us that some family gatherings are graced with more notable celebrities than others. Take, for example, the esteemed Hollywood actor and beloved figure, Tom Hanks, who recently appeared in a photo on his son Chet’s Instagram account.

Chet Hanks, the penultimate child of Tom and his spouse, the talented singer and actress Rita Wilson, has been in the spotlight for several reasons that have raised eyebrows; from adopting a controversial accent on the red carpet, to awkward moments on Ziwe, and generally not embodying the quintessential Hanks demeanor. However, throughout 2023, Chet has been introspective about his life, and earlier in the year, he announced a new chapter, marked by getting a cross tattoo and dedicating himself to his faith.

“I’ve spent my time in the public eye playing different roles and hiding behind various masks,” he shared. “Actor. Rapper. Fitness enthusiast. Luxury car aficionado. But none of these personas truly represent who I am… And when I look at the world today, I realize it doesn’t need more facades or people pretending to be something they’re not… What it really needs is more genuine, divine presence.”

Each of Tom’s children has found their path within the entertainment world; Colin and Truman have pursued acting, Elizabeth has become a producer, and Chet has made a name for himself as a rapper and social media influencer. Tom refers to the entertainment industry as “a family business,” and he doesn’t pay much attention to the criticisms surrounding the idea of ‘nepotism babies.’

“Our children were raised in this environment,” he mentioned in January. “We’ve got four kids, each of them incredibly creative, each engaging in their own form of storytelling. Had our family been in a different line of work, say running a plumbing supply company or the local flower shop, everyone would naturally contribute at some point, even if it was just helping with stocktaking at year’s end.”
